Apple Opens “Try Before You Buy” Section in the App Store

App Store News, News | Friday August 6 2010 10:48 am | Comments Off Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,
This isn’t nearly as exciting as it sounds, but Apple has added a “Try Before You Buy” category to the App Store, possibly in attempt to reduce piracy. All the section does is highlight “lite” versions of apps, so there isn’t really anything new. This may be a play to have a more Android-like store, where users are [...]

ShopListFree vs. GroceryList

I have always appreciated iphone applications for how they help people to stay organized. The following two apps fit perfectly into that category.

ShopListFree is an app that allows people to organize their groceries in a list, according to what category they belong to, for example, dairy, meat and fish, tinned food, fruits and vegetables, etc… What makes this app so useful is that not only is it extremely easy to use but it is free. The app as a result, is not complex, what you see is definitely what you get, however,it is an app that gives you everything you would need in helping you to organize your grocery shopping trips. The app also allows you to enter the amount of each grocery item that you need, so that you know how much to buy. If you want to go pro, i.e get more features you can pay for that version of the app, 1.99. But, I would be careful because there aren’t really that many more features to the pro version and you would be better off staying with the ShopListFree or with going to a more developed, complex grocery list app, for example, GroceryList.

Apps that are in the grocery list category really fascinate me because I am interested to see how developers add to what seems like a pretty simple topic for an app. However, the GroceryList app definitely makes ShopListFree look over simplified. GroceryList complicates what ShopListFree does so easily. GroceryList allows you to choose from a huge list of grocery store items, everything from advil to absinthe, and requires you to press on the + button to add an item to your shopping list. From there, you can make a grocery list, go shopping with your list, make a second list, add to the master list or change existing items. This app is the Rolls Royce of grocery store apps, for 4.99 there really isn’t anything else you could put in a grocery store app.  This means one thing for the efficiency of the GroceryList app, it is not as easy to use because of the extra list capabilities and all the extra options. In my opinion, the ShopListFree grocery list app is much easier to use and makes paying for the GroceryList app seem a bit unnecessary. I wont dispute that GroceryList app is a good application, but when it comes to grocery list apps, ShopListFree has all you would need and its free!

Vapor4: Now this is a Bumper

Yeah, I’ll let you stare at that for a little bit. Back already? Ok good. Meet Vapor4, a ‘bumper’ (this should have its own category) for the iPhone 4. Made of aluminum, it supposedly fixes the iPhone’s antenna problems. The Vapor4 has an interior lining that separates the antenna from the case itself. And does [...]

Let’s Get Personal: Craigslist Pro for the iPhone

Craigslist is many things to many people.  For some it’s a marketplace where anything and everything they need is at hand (for a price); for others it’s a dark place that hides within it shady, underhanded, and often times disturbingly hilarious dealings.  Whatever it may seem to people, the one thing that is certain is that it has become a major phenomenon on the internet.  Whether you’re looking for something to buy, some help, or someone to talk to, Craigslist will have it covered, making it one of the most widely appealing websites out there.  And now it’s available as an app for the iPhone.

Craigslist is an online classified advertisement community that covers everything from furniture to employment to social networking; if you can conceive it, someone on Craigslist will have it and if you need to get rid of it, there will be someone to buy it.  The Craigslist Pro app for the iPhone has taken this and made it easier to access by making it mobile.  Craigslist Pro includes the original functions of the Craigslist website along with it popular Best-of-Craigslist feature.  As with the original, you can search by city and category.  On top of that, they’ve redone the appearance.  Instead of the plain white forum-style page the Craigslist site has adopted, the iPhone app includes a colored background and folder-shaped tabs for searches based on city and category.  I think it’s a great improvement on the site and I personally didn’t have any problems while using it.  Check it out yourself and let us know what you think!
