Even though there is no Resend button on the iPhone, there is a workaround. Open the Sent folder in Mail and select the message you want to resend. Then tap the folder button on the bottom taskbar (second from the left) and then the Drafts folder. This places the message in the Drafts folder. From there, you can open it up, enter an address, and send it again.

If you get an attachment with an e-mail, it will appear at the bottom of the message, with the file-type icon, title of the attachment, and file size. Tapping on it will open it full-screen, and you can zoom in and out and scroll around on it. Note that you can only open and view Word, Excel, PDF, and graphics files-you cannot edit them.

Get a Yahoo mail account for real-time delivery

You can set up a free Yahoo mail account and get real-time e-mail delivery, also known as "push e-mail". This means that when you get a new message, it will show up on your iPhone as it arrives. There is nothing you have to do to set up this feature-it is done automatically. You'll know that you have new mail by glancing at the Mail icon on your Home screen to see if there is a circled number in the upper-right corner, indicating how many new messages you have waiting. You'll also hear the "You've got mail" sound.

Work with your IMAP e-mail offline

Mail | Tuesday October 21 2008 12:22 am | Comments Off

IMAP e-mail accounts (such as Gmail and Hotmail) keep all of your e-mail on online servers, which means that you can't delete messages or read them unless you are online. Fortunately, you can set up your iPhone/iPod touch to copy your IMAP messages onto the device so that you can work with them offline. Here's how you do it:

  1. Go to Settings >Mail >your account name under Accounts >Advanced >Drafts Mailbox.
  2. Then under On My Phone, tap Drafts.
  3. Now go back and repeat step 2 for your Sent Mailbox and Deleted Mailbox folders

  • Tap on an e-mail address to compose and send an e-mail.
  • Tap on a Web address to open a Web page.

Swipe your finger across an e-mail to delete it

FingerSwipe.jpgA quick and fun way to delete e-mail messages (in the list view of a folder) is to simply swipe your finger across it (in either direction). A red Delete button will appear to the right of the message to confirm the deletion. If you change your mind, you can tap anywhere outside the button to cancel the action. This finger swiping action lets you delete items in a number of the built-in applications.

An alternate method for deleting messages is to tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen, tap the red circle to the left of the message that you want to delete, and tap Delete.

Swipe your finger across an e-mail to
quickly bring up the Delete button.

You can further reduce the drain on the battery and reduce e-mail overload by limiting the amount of e-mail you download to your iPhone. Immediately below the Auto-Check setting on the Home >Settings >Mail screen is the Show setting. You can set this to display a specific number of the most recent messages: as low as 25 and as many as 200. If you want to see additional messages, tap on the Download More button in the Mail program.

Set “Auto-Check”

If you are not using a Microsoft Exchange push e-mail service, you can configure your iPhone to “Auto-Check” for new e-mail messages every 15, 30, or 60 minutes, or Manual. To set Auto-Check:

  1. Go to the Home screen
  2. Tap on the Settings icon
  3. Select Mail at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Auto-Check is below the Accounts section.

NOTE: The more frequently the iPhone auto-checks for e-mail, the more battery power you use. Set the time higher or set it to Manual to conserve battery power.
